Lord Jagannath gives more importance to His prasad. Lord Vishnu, manifesting as Jagannath, promised Goddess Parvati (Annapurna) that his Mahaprasad would be for all beings, a promise fulfilled by offering the food first to Jagannath and then to Goddess Bimala. This practice makes the food spiritually potent, and consuming it is considered a blessing and a path to salvation. When the prasad of Lord Jagannath offered to Mata Bimala, a manifestation of Parvati, it becomes Mahaprasad, which doesn't discriminate. It is shared among people of all genders, castes, creeds, and statuses, fostering unity and universal.
Mahaprasad is classified into two major categories such asAbhadaBhog (cooked foods) and SukiliBhog (dry foods). TheAbadhaBhog (Cooked Foods) is comprised of rice, dal, and curries like Besara. The SukhiliBhog (dry foods) consists of various sweets such as Khaja, Pitha(cake), Khai, and other coconut-based treats like Nadia Kora. Other common items include Kheer (milk rice), Dalma (dal with vegetables), Kanika (Sweet rice),Rabidi, and various fried items etc.
